Tamar Carter is postdoctoral fellow interested in parasite and human host genetic diversity related to population health. She earned her B.S. in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Florida, where she also worked as an undergraduate research assistant with the Florida Museum of Natural History. She continued her education at the University of Florida, earning her MPH (concentration in Epidemiology) and PhD in Genetics and Genomics. Her dissertation focused on malaria in Haiti, specifically antimalarial resistance variants in malaria parasite populations and related inherited red blood cell disorders in human host populations. While in graduate school, she completed internships with the UF Public Health Research Laboratory in Gressier, Haiti and with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Carter is now studying glucose-6- phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency variants and malaria parasite genetic diversity in Ethiopian populations.
